Great and Small Forest School

Where children have the freedom to play, to explore, to investigate, to learn and to thrive

A world of adventure and learning.

As a new setting, we are starting with parent and child sessions in order to spread the word about our fabulous Forest School and will hopefully be able to start our preschool+ sessions soon (details as below). Please contact us for updates, to register your interest or to book the parent and child sessions.

Our Forest School site is in a fantastic location whereby parents can easily park and take a short stroll with their little one on well made paths and roads to our site where you will be greeted at our gate by our welcoming practitioners.

From here, our day of Forest School fun begins. After self registration and a chat together to mindfully start our day, the children are invited to engage in the range of stimulating activities on offer, all using open-ended and natural/sustainable resources which promote curiosity, imagination and creative play and exploration.

Fun and play throughout the seasons

Throughout the flow of the sessions, we come together to enjoy a range of healthy and nutritious snacks and lunch, much of which is cooked safely on our campfire. There will be opportunity to learn more about the bounty that our woodland can provide by taking part in foraging and experiencing new sensations, all in the safe hands of our experienced and knowledgeable Forest School leaders.

Throughout the sessions, throughout the year, we’ll enjoy observing and embracing the changing weathers and seasons. Always dressed appropriately, we’ll have fun come rain or shine. Children’s welfare and wellbeing is at the heart of our practice so we do have a shelter and only if the weather is considered potentially dangerous (lightning storms or high winds) might we have to take a ‘rain check’.

Limitless Adventure

The Forest School ethos advocates that children learn and develop holistically through a range of enriching and age appropriate hands on experiences scaffolded by nurturing and confidently knowledgeable practitioners. That’s why our mission statement is to give children ‘the freedom to play, to explore, to investigate, to learn and to thrive’ in their own wonderfully unique way.

Our beautiful natural surroundings provide us with a wealth of exciting learning opportunities and a deep connection to our earth. Here we develop love and respect for ourselves, each other and our world. Outside of our private site, we also have the benefit of being able to explore the wider estate of Waddow Hall where our adventures are roofed only by the sky.
